Strategic Alliance between the Argentine Association of Prosecutors and Environmental News

The Argentine Association of Prosecutors (AAF) and Environmental News have signed a strategic alliance with the aim of strengthening environmental protection through the dissemination of information and the promotion of environmental justice.

The alliance focuses on creating an effective communication network that allows environmental prosecutors to share information about cases. Meanwhile, Environmental News will be responsible for giving visibility to these efforts through its platform and social networks.

The alliance

“This collaboration is essential to raise public awareness about the importance of environmental justice and to support prosecutors in their daily work,” stated the president of the AAF, Dr. Marcelo Varona Quintián.

In this regard, he emphasized the need to strengthen ties with a reference medium like Environmental News to address the challenges of the current climate crisis.

The alliance will also include the organization of workshops and seminars, as well as the publication of articles and reports addressing relevant topics such as deforestation, pollution, wildlife trafficking, animal abuse, etc.

“We are very excited to work with the AAF to give voice to environmental prosecutors and to inform the public about their efforts and achievements,” commented Luis Pavesio, the site’s director. “We believe that this collaboration will be an important step towards a more sustainable future,” he added.

The strategic alliance was finalized after important discussions on how the work of justice could be enhanced in this area.

“This is just the beginning of a collaboration that we hope will have a significant impact on environmental justice in Argentina,” concluded the president of the AAF. “Together, we can achieve great goals.”

Also present at the signing were Varona Quintián, Secretary Dr. Matías Michienzi, and Environmental News Director Luis Pavesio.

The importance of the Judiciary acting on environmental crimes

The agreement comes at a time when cases related to environmental issues are gaining ground in the Judiciary and setting precedents.

This was the case with the massacre of penguins in Punta Tombo, for example. Recently, in a historic trial, the Attorney General of Rawson, Florencia Gómez, led an unprecedented investigation and requested a four-year prison sentence for the producer who was ultimately convicted for the act.

In this case, the Court presided over by María Laura Martini and with Carlos Richeri and Eve Ponce as members, issued a historic verdict for the country and even the region.

Another example is the dismantling of a gang that slaughters animals in the area of Berazategui, Buenos Aires province. After a report to Prosecutor Christian Granados, an urgent raid was ordered, with prior notice to the Guarantees judge.
