On March 2nd, at 9:30 in the morning, in front of the Xochitla Ecological Park in Tepotzotlán, Mexico, a peaceful demonstration called “Mega Hug for Xochitla” will take place.
The purpose of this event is to make visible the struggle of the inhabitants of the Valley of Cuautitlán. For two decades, they have seen how their land and water are transformed into extensions of cement and structures of Mega Industrial and Logistic Parks.
Most of these operate illegally, without respecting environmental or sustainability regulations. This causes serious problems of insecurity, mobility, and public health.
The fight to save Xochitla park
“Faced with the constant threat of the ecological park being destroyed to become a logistics park in this sacrifice zone, in the name of so-called ‘progress’, the XOCHITLA VIVE group joins to stop this ecocide,” they state in a press release. They will ask federal and state authorities for its expropriation and subsequent transformation into a public park.
Xochitla is an ecological park located in Tepotzotlán, State of Mexico. This park is a green lung of 70 hectares and houses species in some risk category according to NOM-059-SEMARNAT and the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
Within its garden, they have 8 botanical collections, highlighting the aquatic plants garden, considered the most important in Mexico and Latin America due to its extension, now at risk of becoming warehouses and a logistic yard.
