Buenos Aires Province Environment Participated in a Debate on Environmental Flexibility at the Book Fair

Within the framework of the Buenos Aires International Book Fair, the Minister of Environment of the province of Buenos Aires, Daniela Vilar, led the panel titled Environmental Flexibility in Argentina.

The meeting, organized by the Grupo Octubre stand, served as a space for critical reflection on the impact of the current national government’s policies on environmental protection.

Debate Axes: Threats to Common Goods

Together with figures like Enrique Viale, Pía Marchegiani, Matías Barroetaveña, and Pablo Mesa, the consequences of measures affecting strategic areas for the country were analyzed, such as:

  • Fire management and preservation of glaciers.

  • Policies on native forests and land tenure.

  • Weakening of environmental monitoring bodies.

Social and Territorial Perspective

During her intervention, Vilar questioned the current economic model, labeling it as “submissive” and warning about the neglect of resources for the benefit of external interests. The minister emphasized that there is no possible sustainable development if territories are destroyed or the rights of communities are violated.

Consensus for the Future

The official stressed the urgency of building broad agreements based on:

  1. Social justice and a federal perspective.

  2. Active citizen participation.

  3. Defense of natural common goods.

The presence of the Buenos Aires Ministry of Environment in this type of event seeks to elevate the level of public debate and reaffirm the role of the State as a guarantor of a development model that respects the environment and ensures a future perspective for upcoming generations.
