Electric cars: the new green boost in Argentina paving the way for sustainable mobility in the country

Sustainable mobility is beginning to gain ground in the country. During the first semester of 2025, sales of electric and hybrid vehicles increased by 56% compared to the same period of the previous year. The figure represents a historical record in registrations and an advancement of sustainable mobility in the country.

According to data from the Online Information System of the Argentine Automotive Market (Siomaa), 12,355 units with alternative motorization were registered. This category includes pure electric cars, conventional hybrids, and mild hybrids.

Interest in this type of transportation is growing hand in hand with incentive policies and greater environmental awareness. Consumers are increasingly prioritizing options that reduce the consumption of fossil fuels.

Additionally, improvements in charging infrastructure and the availability of more affordable models are expanding access to this technology in different sectors of the country.

The rise of hybrids and electric vehicles

Within the ranking of hybrid vehicles, the Toyota Corolla Cross HEV once again led the market. Its sales growth was significant compared to the same period of the previous year.

Regarding 100% electric vehicles, the Renault Mégane E-Tech ranked first in the semester, with a slight margin above its competitors. It was followed by the Renault Kwid E-Tech and the Volvo EX30.

Although pure electric vehicles still have a smaller share of total sales, their sustained growth indicates an expanding trend. Interest is growing as fiscal benefits are consolidated and more charging points are developed.

These data show a paradigm shift in transportation: more and more users are choosing vehicles with less pollution and more efficiency.

Environmental benefits of electric cars

Electric cars do not emit greenhouse gases during their use, contributing to improving air quality in cities and densely populated areas.

They also significantly reduce noise pollution. Without internal combustion engines, their operation is quieter, reducing urban noise.

From an energy perspective, electric vehicles can take advantage of renewable sources such as solar or wind power if available in the country’s electrical grid. This multiplies their positive impact in the fight against climate change.

Moreover, electric vehicles have less mechanical wear and usually require less maintenance. This implies cost savings for the user and less generation of hazardous waste like oils or filters.

The transformation towards sustainable mobility in the country is just beginning

While the path towards cleaner mobility still faces challenges, such as charging infrastructure and initial costs, the sustained growth demonstrates that the change is already underway.

Argentina is at a crucial moment to consolidate public policies that promote this energy transition. Investing in electric transportation means investing in more sustainable and healthy cities. The future of mobility is already taking shape: quieter, more efficient, and greener.
