Reforest the La Calera Defense Nature Reserve in Córdoba with 1500 native plants to strengthen biodiversity

In a joint effort to strengthen biodiversity conservation, the National Parks Administration (APN) and the Argentine Army carried out an important day of ecological restoration in the La Calera Defense Nature Reserve, located in the province of Córdoba.

Commitment to environmental recovery

This activity is part of an ambitious long-term project that aims to reforest a total of 282.3 hectares. During this latest day, 1,500 specimens of native tree and shrub species were planted, covering an area of approximately two hectares.

A collaborative effort

The initiative stands out for its strong community and institutional component. The event was attended by authorities from the Local Management Committee, representatives from the governments of La Calera and Malagueño, educational institutions, the Museum of Memory Space “La Perla”, volunteer firefighters, and organizations such as the La Lucena Foundation and Gardeners Without Borders.

Project objectives

The reforestation tasks have clear goals for the ecosystem:

  • Ecological remediation: Specifically respond to the damage caused by the forest fires that occurred in 2024.

  • Coverage recovery: Restore lost vegetation and reestablish natural ecological processes.

  • Ecosystem resilience: Strengthen the protected area’s ability to withstand future environmental disturbances.

This management model, based on joint work between the Ministry of Defense and the APN, consolidates the reserve as a vital space where environmental protection and the commitment of local actors come together to preserve the region’s natural heritage.
