The Buenos Aires Ministry of Environment promotes improvements in the management system through collaborative work with sector actors, aiming to expand the operational capacity, optimize processes, and strengthen the circular economy.
The Provincial Directorate of Special and Pathogenic Waste of the Ministry of Environment of the province of Buenos Aires held a working meeting with representatives of the Civil Association Campo Limpio to analyze the current situation of the management system for empty phytosanitary containers and to advance measures to improve its functioning.
During the meeting, the main challenges of the system were addressed, particularly the situation of the Temporary Storage Centers (CAT) and the need to expand the capacity for reception, treatment, and recycling of the containers, based on the projected growth of agricultural production in the Province.
In this context, it was agreed to advance in the incorporation of new operators, strengthen the treatment processes, and expand the network of reception points, with the aim of consolidating a more efficient system and ensuring an environmentally appropriate management of these wastes.
Additionally, the importance of improving the mechanisms of traceability, access to information, and institutional communication was emphasized, along with the development of awareness campaigns and greater territorial coordination with municipalities and actors in the productive sector.
From the Provincial Directorate, they highlighted that the province of Buenos Aires has one of the most developed systems in the country in terms of container recovery, following the decision of the Minister of Environment, Daniela Vilar, to position this policy as a management priority.
In this regard, they emphasized that the collaborative work between the public sector and the various actors of the system is key to continue strengthening environmental management, optimizing processes, enhancing the circular economy, and preventing the associated risks with this type of waste.
