Within the framework of the Tree Day in Argentina, during August, the City of Buenos Aires carries out the planting of 650 native specimens in the Riverside Path of the Riachuelo.
The main activity will take place on Friday, August 29 at 10:00 a.m., with the largest plantation, which will include 500 native trees of species typical of the area. Among them are the yellow stick, tamura, red timbó, and ibapoí.
In addition, during the month, cleaning, weeding, and minor plantations have already been carried out in different sections of the Riverside Path, contributing to the environmental restoration of the area.
A day for biodiversity in the Lago Lugano Ecological Reserve
Reforestation against climate change.
The day will begin at the Lago Lugano Ecological Reserve, where a talk on biodiversity and the history of the Riachuelo will be given. Then, participants will move to the planting area to continue with the afforestation.
The selected species come from the nursery of the Center for Environmental Information and Training (CIFA) of the Environmental Protection Agency (APrA). The initiative is part of the public policy of afforestation of the Riverside Path, which aims to restore the coastal edges and create biological corridors that promote the development of native flora and fauna.
The choice of the area also plays a strategic role: it serves as a buffer against the Lago Lugano Ecological Reserve, as the tree border prevents the advance of exotic species.
Reforestation: a coordinated effort
Various agencies of the City Government participate in the planting, including:
-
Subsecretariat of Environment, through the General Directorate of Conservation Areas
-
Environmental Protection Agency (APrA) together with the General Directorate of Environmental Control
-
General Directorate of Citizen Participation
-
General Directorate of Metropolitan Governance
-
General Directorate of Traffic
-
General Directorate of Cleaning
Residents who wish to participate can sign up through this form.

The CIFA nursery and its contribution to urban biodiversity
The CIFA nursery, located in Villa Soldati, produces herbaceous, sub-shrub, shrub, and tree species from the Buenos Aires region.
Its goal is to recover degraded spaces, strengthen plant populations, and consolidate biological corridors in the main biodiversity nodes of the City, such as protected areas and large parks.
The work of the CIFA includes everything from field surveys and technical document preparation to the production of native green infrastructure, in line with the 2030/2050 environmental agenda.
It also carries out actions of training and dissemination on urban biodiversity, essential to promote environmental care in the City of Buenos Aires.
