Vacant lots, canal banks, and green spaces have become improvised dumpsites in multiple neighborhoods of Córdoba. A new survey promoted by councilwoman Elisa Caffaratti revealed the existence of numerous clandestine dumps, some of them of great magnitude, which compromise environmental health and urban quality of life.
Macrodumps: critical points and daily waste accumulation
Neighbors, waste pickers, and trucks dispose of waste uncontrollably in vulnerable areas.
A report presented on the news program Telenoche includes a map with red-marked hotspots, identifying the so-called “macrodumps”. These sites receive waste daily, generating accumulations that affect the air, soil, and social environment.
One of the most severe cases is located near the Córdoba International Airport, where a slow underground combustion was detected, causing a persistent smoke cloud with a foul odor, likened by residents to “boiled cauliflower”.
Institutional intervention and environmental monitoring
The municipality coordinates actions with provincial and academic organizations
In response to the emergency, the Municipality notified:
- Ministry of Environment of the Province
- Hydrometeorological Observatory
- Center for Research on Environmental Chemical Engineering (CIQA) at UTN
Samples were taken from the affected site and laboratory results are awaited to determine the level of contamination and associated risks.
Political demand and sustained environmental policy proposal
Councilwoman Caffaratti demands structural and coordinated measures for urban sanitation.
“Córdoba cannot get used to living among garbage,” expressed the radical leader, who demands:
- Greater control over illegal waste disposal
- Policies for waste collection, recycling, and urban sanitation
- Interinstitutional coordination for sustained environmental management

Municipal operations: over 3,100 tons removed in one week
Concrete actions to protect residents’ health in affected areas. During the last week, the municipality removed approximately 3,100 tons of illegal waste, in operations that covered multiple sectors of the city, including:

- Renault Community / La Lonja, Camino a Capilla
- Santa Bárbara, Liceo Procrear, Cartechini Valparaíso
