The Municipality of Salta, in coordination with the Division of Rural Environmental Police, carried out a widespread inspection and control operation of micro-landfills in the southeast area of the city, focusing on the El Sol and 20 de Junio neighborhoods, where improper waste dumping was detected in sports spaces and along the banks of the Arenales River.
Joint actions and institutional response
“Our goal is to detect infractions, but also to raise awareness about responsible habits,” stated Juan Pablo Farfán, director of the Environmental Patrol, confirming that the work included inspections of properties used as clandestine dumps by loading and unloading trucks.
In one of the cases, a vehicle was caught in the act of illegal dumping. The Environmental Patrol, along with the Police, proceeded to:
- Consult with the Judiciary
- Impound the truck
- Issue a violation notice to the driver and the owning company
Community involvement and use of digital tools
The intervention responded to complaints made by neighbors, both in the affected area and in other sectors of the city. Alerts were channeled through:
- 147 Hotline
- Muni Salta App
These tools have allowed to strengthen territorial surveillance and promote responsible community behaviors within the framework of municipal environmental management programs.
Urban impact and citizen commitment
Illegal micro-landfills represent a direct risk to:
- The health of the inhabitants
- The environmental quality of public spaces
- The ecosystem functionality of the Arenales River
The municipality warned that it will continue with inspections and urged the population to report similar situations, reinforcing the message that caring for the environment is a shared task between neighbors and authorities.
