The province’s environment initiated a new process of updating the Native Forests Territorial Planning.

The initial phase of the participatory procedure has been launched in order to update the Native Forest Territorial Zoning (OTBN) corresponding to the Province of Buenos Aires.

This task involves a renewal of the Buenos Aires map carried out in collaboration with other ministries of the province, as well as with universities and environmental organizations.

The Ministry of Environment of the Province of Buenos Aires promoted the start of a new update of the OTBN through an initial collaborative working meeting.

Teams from different provincial ministries, academic institutions, and environmental organizations participated in this event. The purpose was to jointly design the process that will take place during the current year and the next.

This renewal of the Buenos Aires forest map is based on the need to organize the territory according to environmental criteria. The goal is to strengthen public management tools and ensure that decision-making is based on evidence.

Representing the provincial environmental authority, Matías Fernández, the Chief of Staff of the Ministry, was present.

The OTBN enables the definition of priority areas for conservation and ecological restoration, as well as guiding sustainable land uses.

It also helps prevent changes in land use in sensitive areas and strengthen public policies to address the climate crisis, protecting biodiversity and the well-being of communities at the same time. Updating this zoning is crucial because it is the mechanism that enables and organizes funding for management or conservation projects in the Province.

Regarding this, Minister Daniela Vilar commented: “We are experiencing a true regression in terms of environmental policies with a government that has zero strategic capacity for foresight: a summer of very high temperatures is coming, and fires threaten life and biodiversity. In this context, more than ever, taking care of the forests is a way to mitigate the effects of the climate crisis.”
