The 2nd Criminal Court of Florencio Varela sentenced a citizen for animal abuse against a dog, who, in July 2024, inserted a stick in the dog’s throat. The sentence was 2 years and 7 months of effective imprisonment, due to other previous crimes committed by the individual, as reported by judicial sources.
The ruling was delivered by Judge Carolina Mingrone, who sentenced J.A.A. in a summary trial for several offenses, including the one that occurred on July 21, 2024 (case 1463), where he abused a dog, a male pitbull mix. The sentence was signed on March 13th.
According to the resolution obtained by this media outlet, J.A.A. was sentenced to 11 months and 15 days in prison and ordered to pay the legal costs for acts of animal cruelty. Additionally, he was charged with a simple robbery committed on February 12, 2025 (case 1568). As part of the ruling, a 1 year and 8 months suspended sentence he had from 2023 in another case at the same court was revoked.
Consequently, the 2nd Criminal Court imposed a single sentence of 2 years, 7 months, and 15 days of effective imprisonment. Moreover, the victim of case No. 1568 and the NGO “Animal Protection and Defense Management” will be notified about the sentence, which will end on September 17, 2027.

An exemplary ruling
The news was celebrated on social media by several animal protection organizations. The NGO “Alerta Galgos” expressed on its Instagram profile:

“Thanks to the actions and sensitivity of Court No. 2 and the Judge in charge. They sentence a citizen of Florencio Varela to 2 years and 7 months who, in July last year, abused an animal by inserting a stick in the throat of his pitbull dog after several acts of cruelty.

The justice system imposed almost the maximum penalty for animal abuse, plus the accumulation of other crimes, ensuring the sentence was effectively served. Until September 2027, he will be in prison. Thanks to all who supported us and once again trusted. Report, report, and never give up on the causes!”

Alongside these words, the organization shared images of the mistreatment suffered by the pitbull on July 21, 2024, highlighting the cruelty of the act and the importance of continuing to fight for animal protection.
