Andrés García Gasca is an inspiring example of resilience and creativity in the world of entrepreneurship. Despite facing a significant setback when he was expelled from the Tecnológico de Monterrey, he turned that setback into an opportunity to innovate and make a positive impact. Currently, as the founder and CEO of Trisol, a pioneering company in recycling used tires in Mexico, Andrés is attracting the attention of technological giants like Tesla, the company led by Elon Musk.
The idea for Trisol emerged when Andrés identified one of Mexico’s biggest environmental problems: the accumulation of used tires. Every year, the country generates around 40 million discarded tires, of which only a small portion is properly recycled. This waste not only poses an aesthetic problem but also seriously impacts the environment by blocking drains and serving as breeding grounds for disease-carrying mosquitoes such as dengue.
For this reason, in 2014, Andrés decided to found Trisol with the aim of offering an effective solution to this problem. The company uses advanced technology and circular economy practices to transform tires into reusable materials such as rubber and steel. These materials are used in the manufacture of industrial floors, asphalt, and other products. Beyond its environmental impact, Trisol has helped create jobs and promote a recycling culture in Mexico.
Trisol’s work did not go unnoticed, especially by Tesla, the leading company in technology and sustainability, led by Musk. In fact, the American company showed interest in integrating Trisol’s recycled materials into its production of electric vehicles and renewable energy systems. This potential agreement would not only solidify Trisol as a reference in the sector but also highlight the importance of implementing sustainable practices in the global industry.
An example of vision and perseverance that caught the attention of Elon Musk
Andrés García Gasca’s trajectory is a powerful reminder that failures can be the first step towards great achievements. His ability to identify an urgent need, develop an innovative solution, and bring his company to the global stage is a testament to the strength of the entrepreneurial spirit.
In a world where sustainability is increasingly important, stories like Andrés and Trisol demonstrate that local solutions can have a global impact. Undoubtedly, the future of this Mexican company promises to be as innovative as its founder.
How do used tires affect the environment?
Used tires contaminate the soil and water, releasing toxic gases, not to mention that they become a habitat for insects and rodents. But in addition to releasing toxic gases, the degradation of tires releases microplastics that contaminate waterways and oceans. Regarding toxic gases, these are released from tire burning, a practice that produces greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and sulfur. These gases can affect the respiratory system and cause asthma or cancer.
Moreover, tires can become a habitat for insects and rodents, as used tires can serve as a habitat for mosquitoes, rats, scorpions, and spiders. In fact, insects like mosquitoes can transmit diseases such as dengue, yellow fever, equine encephalitis, and West Nile virus.
To reduce the environmental impact of tires, they can be recycled, as this involves both waste collection and sorting, disassembly, rubber crushing, component repair, and material recovery.
